New chapel opens in village
A new Methodist church has opened in Hesketh Bank.
Standing on the site of the old Methodist church on Chapel Lane, the new building has been constructed as part of a wider scheme of affordable housing.
The housing association, with agreement from the previous minister, demolished the old place of worship, which had stood neglected for years, to make way for six new apartments for affordable rent and eight houses for shared ownership. Labelled as an important new start for local communities by Rev Kevin Jones at a foundation stone-laying ceremony, the redevelopment is part of Regenda’s goal to provide much needed affordable housing in rural areas.
The new chapel will also combine a village hall and café, acting as hub for the local community.
The new homes are expected to be completed and handed over to Regenda next month.
