  • Murder probe after body found in burnt out car

    POLICE are investigating the death of a man whose body was found in a burnt out car in Everton.

    The body of Joseph McKeever, 54, from Walton, was discovered inside the vehicle after firefighters were called to a blaze on Whitehaven Road at around 11pm on Thursday, June 15.

    The cause of death is being withheld pending further investigation but detectives believe he was subject to a sustained assault and suffered a severe head injury prior to his death.

    A 31 year-old man from Bootle was arrested on suspicion of murder and a 31-year-old woman, also from Bootle, was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

    Both have been released under investigation.

    Following the discovery of the body, police sectioned off areas in Bootle and Wavertree as they carried out the initial stages of their investigation.

    The scene of the burnt out car was also cordoned off to allow Crime Scene Investigators to carry out forensic examinations.

    Detective Chief Inspector John Middleton said: "Our investigation is in its early stages but I would urge anyone who saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area around Whitehaven Road/Wyre Road around 11pm on Thursday, June 15 to contact us immediately. Any information they have may be vital to our investigation."
