Machete found hidden in alleyway
A LARGE machete hidden inside a bag in a Walton alleyway has been seized by police.
At around 2am on Thursday, August 10, officers found the weapon inside a drawstring bag as they carried out a search on Yew Tree Road.
The machete has now been recovered and taken for forensic examination.
Detective Inspector Steve McGrath said: “This discovery means there is one less weapon on our streets capable of causing serious injury or worse.
“Knives and machetes are clearly very dangerous and there is no place for them on the streets of Merseyside.
“Using a knife can have devastating consequences not only for the victim and their family but also the offender.
“We will continue to work towards removing knives and dangerous weapons from our streets and bringing those responsible for carrying – and using – them to justice.
“Information from our communities is vital.
“If anyone has any information about those carrying knives, or who knows where knives are being stored, I would urge them to contact us on 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 so that we can make our streets safer.”
