  • Dukes Ward candidates are revealed

    Danielle Thompson

THE Conservative party and Labour party have announced their candidates for the forthcoming Dukes Ward by-election on Thursday, November 2.

The Conservative Party has selected local campaigner and former NHS nurse Ann Pearmain, who lives in the ward, as their local candidate while the Labour party chose Frank Hanley, a former senior local government officer and community relations expert.

Ann Pearmain is a qualified teacher of English as a foreign language and has had a career as a paediatrics nurse in the NHS spanning over 20 years – a position she looks to continue as a registered volunteer at Southport and Formby District Hospital.

Frank Hanley is the former Head of Services at Bradford Council. He lives in Ainsdale with his wife and is very actively involved in the local community. He is also also Southport Labour's observer to Sefton Council.

The announcements come after former Southport MP John Pugh revealed he is set to stand for the seat for the Lib Dems.
