Orchestra to present all English Concert at church
THE Southport Orchestra will present an all English Concert this autumn at the Emmanuel Parish Church, Cambridge Road, Southport PR9 9PR on Saturday, November 25 commencing at 7.30pm.
Organisers have said the programme of music to be played, “is as exciting as it is spectacular” for the Orchestra members have never attempted a collection of purely English music such as will be included in this concert.
Some of the pieces like Edward Elgar’s hauntingly beautiful cello concerto in E minor and the tone poem The Banks of Green Willow by George Butterworth will be familiar to most.
The orchestra are delighted to welcome once again to play with them, this time in the Elgar concerto, Gregor Cuff who excels as soloist. The dance La Calinda from the Opera Koanga by Frederick Delius is another well known work.
Other works to be performed is the Bucolic Suite by Vaughan Williams, a Tune Piece by Ted Kirk and an especially composed piece by Hilary Burgoyne, is a Song for Lesley as a tribute to the late leader of this fine local orchestra.
The players will be led by Melanie Foster and as usual the performance will be under the direction of Jeff Rimmer who works hard to get the best out of his players.
Concert tickets can now be obtained from the Southport Christian Book Centre, Wesley Street, Southport, 01704 542226 priced at £12 and £5 for those under 18 years.
