The Conservatives have revealed the four candidates aiming to become their prospective parliamentary candidate at the next general election.
From a list of applications, two men and two women have been chosen, and West Lancashire Conservative Association will now throw the final decision open to the public.
In the running is Alf Doran, a Sefton councillor and West Lancs Tory candidate at the 2005 general election; Veronica Horman, who is a one time maths teacher and now Cheshire council legal officer; Thelma Matuk, who is an accountant who fought Eccles in the 2005 general election; and Adrian Owens, an Ormskirk cllr and finance portfolio holder for West Lancs District Council.
Tory chairman Cllr Rob Bailey said: "The selection has been incredibly difficult from a very strong list of potential candidates. Of the four who proceed to the final, we have two women, both of them chosen on their own merit, which I would contrast with the Labour party's imposed "all-women" shortlist."
The Tories believe that West Lancashire — covering Ormskirk and Skelmersdale — will return to the Tories at the next general election. West Lancashire was last in Tory hands in 1992 when Ken Hind was MP.
The candidates will now be put before a primary husting to chose the candidate to run for Parliament.
The event is scheduled for the evening of Friday, July 6, at Church House, Ormskirk, and any member of the public on the electoral role may register to go along, listen to the candidates and make their choice.
