A SOUTHPORT man has been named the best young plumber in France and will receive his award from the country’s President.
Oliver Watson, 26, beat more than 6,000 competitors to win the Meilleur Apprenti de France prize and will travel to Paris receive the prestigious accolade from French premier Nicolas Sarkozy in September.
He left an art and design course in Manchester three years ago and went to visit his parents in France, where he enrolled on a plumbing course in Marseille.
He later entered the national competition to find France’s best apprentice, and spent more than 150 hours producing a complicated pipe work with specific measurements. The competition judges were unaware of Oliver’s nationality.
He is now working for a plumbing firm in Manchester.
