A DOCTOR who was one of the first to provide botox injections in the north west has warned the public about "botox parties".

Dr Stephen Hennessey said it is "only a matter of time before something goes wrong."

Dr Hennessey said that botox is a medical procedure that needs to be carried out in a clinical setting.

"The main thing with these parties is that there is alcohol and peer pressure involved and you can't make an informed decision half-cut," he said.

He advised people that if they were determined to have a botox party to check a persons credentials.

"You need to make sure a person is qualified and insured because a lot of companies won't insure people to carry out this sort of procedure outside a clinic."

Dr Hennessey, who is based in Southport, also said that in a worst case scenario a person may have an allergic reaction to botox and need oxygen, which would not be available if the procedure was done at home.

However, he stressed that allergic reactions were rare.
