UFO mystery solved?
11 September 2008

A Champion reader thinks she may have solved the mystery of a UFO over Rufford.

Abigail Hyslop of Burscough read our story last week on US TV crews interviewing Southport author Pat Regan on the strange object he spotted on a photo of a funnel cloud.

Abigail had taken photos of the same weather phenomenon in July and captured an object she believes is a helicopter.

"My youngest son shouted 'there is a tornado!' and we were rushing to get batteries in the camera," Abigail, of Moss Lane, said.

"I took four or five pictures from the front garden and put them on the computer.  When we looked one had what looks like a helicopter on it, but we never saw it at the time.

"I think it is just a helicopter and the other pictures would have captured it from a different angle.  I thought it was a bit irresponsible for it to be flying so close to the funnel cloud."

But Pat does not think it is the same object that he photographed.

"If the new picture does show a chopper then it seems to be going in the reverse direction to my object. I say this for others have claimed that the noticeable blurring on the left-hand side of the entity in my shot indicates that the UFO was travelling towards the twister.

"The new object does not appear to show much colour or highlight perhaps due to its position. My object was of a greenish hue and well-highlighted. It was also disc or cigar-shaped without any projections."

Nick Pope, ex-MOD expert, has also examined the new photo.

"It's an intriguing image and a genuine mystery.  I'm not sure it's a helicopter.  The MoD has the equipment and expertise to analyse and enhance such images, but they wouldn't share their conclusions with the public or the media," he said.
