All aboard for bus ride down Memory Lane!
THE Merseyside Transport Trust (MTT) will be holding its annual Open Day event on Sunday, July 9 to raise funds for the upkeep of its fleet of more than 50 historic vehicles.
Held at its base off Tollgate Road in Burscough, this is an opportunity to see the trust’s vast collection of buses (and a train!) in various stages of restoration. It is also aimed to attract new members, volunteers, sponsorship and generate interest within the community.
Running from 10.30am to 2.30pm, this year’s event will feature bus rides around the surrounding area, serving local pubs, villages and supporting local businesses.
There will be numerous vehicles on display including visiting vehicles from other preservation groups, sales stands and talks given about the group’s latest projects and how people can become involved.
The open day is run entirely by volunteers and the MTT is always keen to see more people actively involved as well as to see the associated skills base that goes with this expanded.
Light refreshments will be available with all proceeds going to the charity and entry is free and there’s no need to book.
A souvenir programme and guide to the day will be available for £3 and any donations people would like to make to the group would be most welcome.
Lee Wolfe, publicity and events officer for the MTT who has been involved with the group for 10 years, said: ‘’The open day is now in its sixth year since moving to our new premises in 2011 and has gone from strength to strength.
“We have been consistently attracting large numbers, which is encouraging for a small charity, and are always looking at ways to make the event even bigger.
“All funds raised on the day will go a long way in helping to keep our collection safe for the future.’’
On the day free car parking will be available at a nearby site, plus a free park & ride bus service between there and the main event, and free shuttle service connecting the event to the Ormskirk and Burscough bus/rail interchanges
