  • Skelmersdale shoemaker picks up international award

    Henry James

THE UK’s largest shoemaker, which is based at Peel Road in Skelmersdale, enjoyed a Cinderella moment winning the Glass Slipper trophy for best newcomer at the international FN Platform exhibition.

Hotter beat 156 shoe brands to win the prestigious award at the show in Las Vegas, which is a global showcase for branded footwear.

Hotter, which is an international omni-channel retailer, was launching its new SS18 collection at the show with the aim of attracting large independent US stockists for its comfort brand.

Sara Prowse, Hotter chief executive said: “Not only are we delighted to have won such an important award at our first visit to an overseas exhibition, we are also overwhelmed with the response to our new range.

“We established our US website and mail order business five years ago and this is our fastest growing territory. We currently serve our US customers from our dedicated call centre which is situated next to our UK factory and warehouse; shoes are shipped direct to US home addresses.”

Founded in 1959 as a slipper manufacturer, Hotter now offers a collection of stylish women’s and men’s shoes with hidden Comfort Concept features including supersoft and breathable leathers, lightweight and flexible soles and underfoot cushioning.

The company won a Queen’s Award for Enterprise in 2015. Hotter’s “multi-channel sales platforms” enable customers to shop online and through mail order catalogues in the UK and US and at over 80 UK Hotter stores.

Its state-of-the-art factory produces a pair of hand finished shoes every 20 seconds which, according to the British Footwear Association, makes it the UK’s largest shoe manufacturer.
