Family catering company on target for ambitious five-year expansion plan
BOSSES at a family-run catering company based in Skelmersdale which has enjoyed a successful year in 2017 say their plans to double in size in the next five years are on track.
In April at the Cost Sector Catering Awards, Mellors Catering Services was named Contract Caterer of the Year 2017 and in September they gained their 200th contract catering site.
They have also reached the finals of the British Sandwich Designer of the Year competition and the Red Rose Business Awards.
The company, based in Prescott Road, East Pimbo, has invested heavily in specialist staff and they now employ more than 1,200 people. They are currently following a five-year plan to double in size.
The firm has contracts at 202 sites and net sales of £23m and bosses plan to increase their mobile offering to construction sites. The firm caters for 80,000 a day. The majority of their contracts are at schools and colleges.
Mark Timmerman, who owns the company with his chairman father Tim, explained the reason why they want to increase their mobile offering, saying: “It’s a good business and not many people want the hassle.
“We want our customers to feel that they can do business with us. We want them to feel that they are loved.”
Dad Tim added: “This year Mellors has reached some important milestones, our growth has been such that we gained our 200th contract, and also we were recognised by our peers in the Contract Catering Industry and awarded the accolade Best Contract Caterer in the UK for 2017 at an award ceremony in London.”
Mellors has a long history, having been established in 1840 in Lord Street, Southport.
The company used to be operated out of offices at the resort’s Royal Clifton Hotel, and managed by Mark. However when the Timmermans sold the hotel, Mellors moved to their other hotel property, the Lancashire Manor Hotel in Skelmersdale.
