Crime fight aid

CRIMES in Birch Green are now being caught on camera thanks to community co-operation.

Lancashire Constabulary said its neighbourhood policing team in Birch Green have now been equipped with two body-mounted cameras thanks to a donation from the area's residents's association, which it is now hoping will help more crimes to be captured on film as they happen.

Birch Green Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) Neil Smith said: “We work closely with the residents’ association to tackle the issues that matter the most to the community. We value their support in funding this equipment which will help to gather video evidence that can be presented to the courts to show exactly what happened during an incident.

”The cameras are also an effective deterrent to anyone engaging in or threatening violent or anti-social behaviour, helping to keep the area a safe place.“

The cameras, which are the same size and weight as a mobile phone, can either be clipped onto an officer’s stab vest or mounted inside a vehicle.

Margaret Hayes from the Birch Green Residents’ Association, said: ”The Birch Green Residents’ Association sees this as a way of not only supporting our local officers but a way of helping them to look after us.

“The cameras will benefit the whole community and will be a great help to officers”.

If you're concerned about crime in your area, call Lancashire Constabulary on 0845 1 25 35 45 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
