Fran ready to go for goldat London Olympics
by Henry James

SOUTHPORT swimmer Fran Halsall has been talking about her dream of winning a gold medal at the Olympics.

She gave an interview to a national newspaper about her private dream to compete at the Olympic games.

Speaking to The Sunday Times, she said she had watched the Sydney Games as a 10-year-old and been enchanted. She commented: “I was thinking, ‘I’d love to win an Olympic gold medal. It would be so cool to do that’. There’s only ever been the one goal.”

In 2005 when her Mum told her the news about London winning the 2012 Olympic Games, Fran had responded: “London 2012. 2012, I will be 22 then, the perfect age. This is destiny, mum. You had me at the right time.

”I still don’t think I’m any good at what I do and won’t until I’ve won an Olympic gold medal.“

The 20-year-old has a world championship silver medal, multiple European Championship medals and she picked up five medals at the recent Commonwealth Games.

At the end of last year Fran had an operation to correct ligament damage in her ankle and had the surgery with an eye on the Olympics. She said: ”I did it because I wanted to be able to train properly and get it stronger for the Olympics.

“It may takes three months for my ankle to be fully healed and doing chin-ups with a cast on your foot is not comfortable, but the key is to be stronger for next year.”

Fran now works at Loughborough College with GB coach Ben Titley and is hoping for Olympic glory in London.
