Teenager in critical condition after crash
by Natasha Young

A 14-YEAR-old girl has been critically injured after a stolen car crashed in Ainsdale after it was chased by police following two burglaries in Crosby and Waterloo.

The girl was a passenger in the Ford Focus which collided with a street sign and a parked car outside the Chapelhouse car dealership just after 4am on Liverpool Avenue, Ainsdale in the early hours of Monday morning (March 21).

A 23-year-old man from Orrell Park, Liverpool was driving the car, which was being followed by a marked Merseyside Police car.

He was treated by paramedics at the scene before being arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and in connection with two burglaries in Waterloo and Crosby.

The police force's professional standards department and the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) have been notified of the incident.

An 18-year-old man from Orrell Park and a 17-year-old girl from Waterloo have been also arrested on suspicion of burglary.

All three people remained in police custody as The Champion went to press.

A spokesperson from Chapelhouse told The Champion that a number of vehicles and three signs were damaged during the crash. They said: “This was not just as a result of the impact, but debris which was flung across the frontage.

”The dealership was unable to operate on Monday due to restricted pedestrian access and no vehicular access. We are now open as normal, and are in the process of estimating the extent of the damage, after which we will be organising replacement signage etc.“

Anyone with information is asked to call road traffic collision investigators on 0151 777 5771 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
