Webcam's a quacker
by Henry James

IT'S been an eggciting time at a West Lancs school.

As part of a spring project, children at Our Lady and All Saints in Parbold have kept a webcam watch on duck eggs incubating.

Teacher Jessica Watson set up a webcam so that everybody could watch it at home as the eggs began to crack - and after four weeks of anticipation five ducklings popped out.

Mum Jess Robinson, whose son James is a pupil at the school, said: “Watching the first egg hatch on the webcam was so exciting. As a parent it is great to share experiences like this with the children.”

The children in class three have had a super time teaching the ducklings to swim and letting them run around their classroom.

Grace Beesley from class three, said: “I love them, they are so cute.”

Ashleigh Willis, who is also in class three, added: “I was quite worried when we were watching them hatch because one of them might not make it.”

Suzanne Pritchard, a teaching assistant, added: “The waiting was driving me quackers.”

Cathy, who is the cook at the school, said: “I love seeing them scramble for their food.”

The ducklings will be staying in school for a while and then they will go to Mrs Pritchard's farm so that the children will be able to watch them grow.
