Surgery pharmacy plan is approved
by David Simister

PLANS to build a new pharmacy within Aughton village surgery have been given the go-ahead.

The facility, within the GP practice building, means that residents will be able to pick up their medicines on the premises after seeing their GP.

A borough council planning officer stated in a report before the plannking meeting: “The main considerations of this proposed development are the impact on neighbouring amenity, the impact on the character of the area and the impact on highway safety. The principle of the development is considered acceptable.”

“It is considered that the proposed development will not result in any detrimental impact on local residential amenity or on the character of the area, nor will it exacerbate the existing on-street parking issues in the immediate area due to the availability of off street parking to the rear of the building.”

MA Doyle, the developers, said in a statement on behalf of Aughton Surgery: “The proposed development would benefit the community of Aughton and particularly those without access to a car or of limited mobility as it improves local accessibility by reducing the number of journeys travelled by eliminating the need for an onward journey of at least one mile (and further outside normal working hours) to the local pharmacy.

”The proposal offers environmentalt and sustainability benefits by reducing significantly the number of journeys between surgery and pharmact whilst also enabling patients to avoid busy traffic periods through the extended opening hours.“
