British feel to this year's Newburgh Fair
by Henry James

A VILLAGE is preparing to host a week of fun later this month.

Newbugh Fair Week starts with a Michael Buble tribute hosted by the Douglas Valley Lions on June 13. For tickets ring 07739 802777. On Thursday evening Ladies' Night stars Peter Hill.

Performers will be given the chance to take to the stage at the Newburgh Got Talent Show on Friday.

A procession leaves Newburgh School, Back Lane on Saturday, June 16, at noon and the crowning of the Rose Queen and the opening of the fair takes place at 1.15pm.

In the arena, the Kirsty Moss dancers and Newburgh Morris will be performing, there will also be the Newburgh Games, and the tug of war.

On the field, residents will find stalls, games and sideshows and in the marquee will be the annual Craft and Flower Show.

“We were pleased to have raised money last year for Twinkle House and for Newburgh School,” said Hazel Flight, chair of the fair committee. “And of course, the charities who have stalls on the day are able to give substantial donations to their causes.”

On Saturday evening the marquee hosts a Diamond Ball and Sunday’s Songs of Praise at 10.30am completes the week’s celebrations.

For information about all events ring Hazel on 01257 463239.
