Brass band comes up trumps to win five trophies
by David Simister

A TARLETON band has come up trumps after winning several prizes at a contest in Cumbria to find some of the region's best entertainers.

Members of Tarleton Brass Band picked up no less than five prizes at this year's Kirkby Lonsdale Kirkby Lonsdale Entertainment Contest Contest on June 17, having impressed showgoers with a diverse variety of pieces, including the March ‘Caractacus' by Will Layman, a hymn tune called ‘Nun Kom der Heiden Heiland ‘arranged by Jacob de Hann, a tenor horn solo ‘Grandfather's Clock' played by Alan Bould, and for their final piece Queen's rock classic ‘Who Wants to live forever'.

The band were placed first in the Fourth Section, and also won Best March, Best Hymn tune, Best MD, and the contest's overall prize.

If you'd like to check out their award-winning playing, the band's next performance is at Coronation Park in Ormskirk on Sunday, August 19. For more information about the band visit the band's official website at www.tarletonbrassband.co.uk
