New conductor wanted
by Natasha Young

THE founder and conductor of Lydiate Concert Band is stepping down, prompting an appeal to find a replacement.

Eddie Rimmer set the not-for-profit band up in June 2009, and is now hoping to concentrate on playing and developing young players.

Since its formation, the band has branched out to play shows at Croxteth Hall, as well as othe charitable venues throughout Merseyside.

An established or young conducter is now needed to lead the group of more than 20 musicians, who play woodwind, brass and percussion instruments.

The band is also on the lookout for new members of all ages and abilities to join in their fun and relaxed music-making sessions.

They meet every Thursday between 7.30 and 9.30pm every Thursday at Maghull Community Association, on Green Lane.

Anyone interested in joining the group or applying for the conductor position can contact Nikki, the Lydiate Concert Band secretary by emailing LydiateConcertBand@yahoo.co.uk.

The deadline for conductor applications is the end of January 2013.

Meanwhile, the band is currently preparing for its annual Christmas Carol Concert which will take place on December 13.

The free family event, also at the Maghull Community Association, will provide an evening of carols, Christmas classics, raffles and some festive fun.
