Aughton's got talent!
by David Simister

A TALENT contest to find the cream of Aughton's musical and theatrical talent has helped to raise hundreds of pounds for charity.

The organisers of the Aughton's Got Talent competition, held last month, said this week that they had raised more than £800 for two charities when youngsters showed off their skills at the village hall.

Dr David Gallagher, one of the contest's organisers, said: “We raised £450 for Macmillan Cancer Research matched to make £900 by Barclaycard.

”Barclaycard will double the £407.50 to make £815.00 for Help for Heroes plus the £14 from the coffee morning which makes £829 for them.“

The cheques were presented at a series of coffee mornings following the contest, where representatives of the two charities met with Dr Gallagher and supporters of the event.

An outstanding achievement medal has also been presented to Jenny Lee for her vocal performance of O mio babbino Caro (Puccini) and Ave Maria (Caccini). First place medals for young contestants medals were presented to Group B which consisted of Kiera McDonough, on vocals, guitarist Joe Peacock, Ben Peacock and Charlotte Gornall, and Aaron Ormesher for his performance of Eddie Cochran's Summertime Blues.

Although the contest, modelled on the hit ITV show Britain's Got Talent, took place at Aughton Village Hall, the contest attracted entrants from across West Lancashire.
