Couple's festive lights display to help children's hospice
by Henry James

A CHARITABLE couple in Bickerstaffe who have been decorating their home and garden with Christmas lights for the last 20 years raising thousands for charity are continuing the tradition this year.

Each year, Terry and Babs Cunliffe, both 69, invite people to look at the lights at their home at 15 Lathom Road, for a donation.

They have raised thousands of pounds for charities over the past two decades with the Baby Care Unit at Ormskirk Hospital and Brookfield Primary School among those to benefit.

This year they are collecting for Zoe’s Place baby hospice in Liverpool.

The couple thought of the idea for their 12 grandchildren, and also after losing a grandchild, and then carried it on every year.

This year they switched on the lights on Saturday, December 1 and they feature ladders with Father Christmas going up and down, stars, bells that change colour, Father Christmas with reindeers, and a Merry Christmas sign.

The wildlife pond is lit up and there are two Christmas trees in the garden.

There is also a singing Father Christmas in the shed in the back garden, which the Cunliffe’s grandchildren love.

Terry told The Champion: “Last year we raised £1,200 and donated to Claire House and we hope to beat that this year and are collecting for Zoe’s Place.

”People are welcome to come along and leave a donation. The lights normally go on after 5pm.“

Terry and Babs’s Christmas lights will be on display until January 6.
