School teams up with Edge Hill University for teacher training scheme
by David Simister

A SCHOOL has teamed up with Edge Hill University as part of a new scheme to bring trainee teachers into their classrooms.

Tarleton Academy said this week that on behalf of the Merseyside, Manchester and Lancashire (MML) Partnership it been granted ‘accredited provider’ status to deliver the Initial Teacher Training, and has teamed up with the Ormskirk-based university to offer them the first opportunity in the north west to take part in the scheme at a secondary school level.

Lesley Gwinnett, the school's headteacher, said: “Gone are the days when trainee teachers were left to their own devices in the classroom. Nowadays, outstanding teacher training involves all teachers in powerful conversations about how to deliver outstanding teaching and learning.

”The minutia of detailed lesson planning and assessment is thrashed out between trainee and subject coach so that every lesson is quality assured repeatedly. Building on this approach the MML partnership is confident that trainee teachers will continue to add value in the classroom and into the rest of their career.“

The academy added that while will not suit everyone training to be a teacher, but for some it will build confidence quicker so that they will be more experienced in the classroom when embarking on the next stages of their teaching career.

To find out more about the scheme go to www.tarletonacademy.org and clicking on the ‘Teacher Training’ tab on the school's website.
