Thieves steal cars being warmed up by owners
by David Simister

THIEVES in West Lancashire have taken advantage of the wintry conditions by stealing cars as they were being warmed up by their owners.

Lancashire Constabulary confirmed two incidents which had seen vehicles being stolen as they were being left to warm up, meaning their engines were already running and they were less secure than they would be if they had been left parked.

The first theft happened on Redgate in Ormskirk at around 8.30am last Wednesday morning (January 16) when a Ford Fiesta, worth £12,000, was stolen while the car's owner was inside his house putting a can of de-icer away.

A similar incident happened on Mickering Lane in Aughton at around 7.40am last Friday morning (January 18) after a Citroen DS3 was stolen after its owner left it unattended while it was being warmed up. The car, which has not been recovered, is worth £16,000.

If you have any information about these incidents contact Lancashire Constabulary on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
