Man in car park tragedy was street pastor
by Henry James

A PENSIONER who died from his injuries after being struck by a vehicle in the Wheatsheaf car park in Ormskirk was a volunteer at Martin Mere and an active member of the Ormskirk Street Pastor group.

Edward Weston, aged 71, died after the incident on Thursday, February 28.

Mr Weston is survived by his wife Pat and two sons, Andrew and David.

The family issued a statement saying they would like to “express thanks and gratitude to all those who helped Edward at the end and who have since offered sympathy and support.”

A memorial service was held by the Street Pastors and Father Boniface Moran on Friday, March 1 at the site of the incident, where memories and prayers were shared.

An ecumenical funeral service will take place at St Anne’s Ormskirk to take into account Mr weston's involvement in Churches Together, an ecumenical group bringing together local churches. An additional memorial service will take place at Emmanuel Methodist Church. All funeral details will be available from Hunter's Funeral Directors. Family flowers only, any donations greatly received on behalf of North West Air Ambulance who attended the incident and a charity Edward had supported in the past.

Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses to the collision and anyone with any information is urged to contact Lancashire Police on 101
