Is that 999? I want to report a duck with a sore leg!
by David Raven

POLICE are reminding Merseyside residents of their non-emergency telephone number after a woman called 999 to report ‘a duck with a sore leg'.

The clip, which has been uploaded to Youtube, sees a distressed woman ringing the emergency services after she spotted the injured animal in the middle of the road.

She said: “Right what it is I'm on Prescott Road right, there's a duck here in the middle of the road and it's going to get run over and it's hurt its leg and I don't know what to do.”

The operator responds: “A duck with a sore leg?!”

The woman repleid: “Oh it's coming back to the main road – stay there – ah all right stay there, it doesn't know what to do.”

The operator replied politely: “Okay the police don't normally deal with ducks you see, I can give you a telephone number for the RSPCA if you are concerned with regards to the injured duck.”

Noel Keville, call handling team leader said: “It is understandable that people may call 999, even if the call is not an emergency, it’s easy to remember and wherever you are you can talk to the police.

”The introduction of 101 should mean that people across the board get the best possible service from the force.“

You can listen to the call below.
