Boxes are donated for project
by Tom Martin

AN ambitious idea by a Seaforth community group to launch a Christmas project for families in need has been helped by a special donation from a local company.

Seaforth Community Shop received a donation of 200 heavy-duty cardboard boxes and a storage unit for its festive hamper project from Smart Storage Liverpool, based on Derby Road, in Bootle.

The donation was arranged via Sefton 4 Good, a new initiative that makes it easier for individuals and businesses in the borough to support local good causes by donating money, resources, skills and time.

This is the third year that Seaforth Community Shop has supported local people who are experiencing financial hardship at Christmas by distributing festive food hampers.

Referrals come from frontline staff including social workers and health visitors to ensure that those families who are struggling the most can get the help they need.

The project works in partnership with Jamie Carragher’s 23 Foundation, which will provide the bulk of the food donations, plus a large team of volunteers to distribute the hampers during Christmas week.

Lynne Higgins from  the award-winning Seaforth Community Shop commented: “We’re very grateful to Smart Storage and Sefton 4 Good for this donation, and of course for the ongoing help of the 23 Foundation.

”We provide a range of support services for local people throughout the year, but Christmas is a very special time and our hamper project is designed to bring some cheer to local families who are experiencing real hardship during the festive season.“

Mike Wilson, Managing Director of Smart Storage Liverpool, which provides tailor-made storage solutions for both domestic and commercial customers, said: ”We were delighted to be able to help out with the Christmas project.

“The Seaforth Community Shop team do some really good work in the area, and the hamper scheme is an excellent example of the way their efforts are improving the lives of local people.”
