A COMMUNITY group held a Christmas Day meal for any elderly or lonely residents who could have ended up spending the day alone.

The Cropper Gardens Community Centre group in Hesketh Bank held the meal at the Hesketh Bank Christian Centre - and organisers Pam and Dave Nickson praised the ‘true spirit of Christmas’ shown by the volunteers.

Pam said: “It was lovely to see the helpers, both young and old, who gave up their time on this very special day, by assisting in the kitchen, waiting on, clearing away and providing transport to and from the venue – it really showed the true spirit of giving at Christmas time.

”They also aim to keep in contact with the guests by organising additional events for them throughout the year - it is important to us that people don’t feel lonely throughout the year and for them to be left feeling that the next event for them to attend would be a meal next Christmas. The guests have welcomed this idea and are really looking forward to meeting up again soon.

“We would like to pass on our sincere and heartfelt thanks to all those who so generously supported this wonderful event. People kindly donated gifts, money, food, transport and their valuable time in order to make this event happen – you all know who you are and we thank you so much.

”Guests were delighted with the venue, food and gifts given and some guests even said that this was the best Christmas Day that they had ever had.“
