On your bikes! Childminders saddle up for charity cycle
by Tom Martin

CHILDMINDERS from Maghull and Lydiate along with the children they look after took part in a bike ride to raise money for charity.

The group managed to raise more than £500 which will be donated to three different organisations that helps women suffering with cancer.

Each participant wore pink for the event and they were sponsored by friends and family to ride around the MCA club.

The three charities that will benefit from the effort is Jo's Cervical Trust, Breast Cancer Care and Ovarian Cancer Action.

It was also an idea to support fellow local childminders Ann Pruden, 60, and Paula Hogg, 57, who will take part in a much more difficult bike ride later this year when they travel 300 miles across China.

The pair, who have been friends for 20 years after meeting at a school gate with their children, have never done anything like this before but decided to take part after Paula underwent treatment for breast cancer in 2010.

Paula and Ann have already raised thousands of pounds thanks to generous sponsorship from family, friends and some local businesses, but they hope to raise more.

Ann, who has been a childminder for the past 27 years, said: “Paula and I have had an overwhelming amount of help from family, friends and local people since we announced we were taking on this challenge in China.

”Cancer affects most people in one way or another, which is probably why we’ve had so much support and people have been so generous with their donations, but we’d still love to raise more money.“
