MORE than 160 people will turn up to a special event in Bootle to mark the centenary of the First World War.

It will take place at Firwood Cricket Club and will involve the reading of wartime poems and a dance performance put on by Bedford Primary School.

Some of the guests that will attend the event will be war veterans who have been asked to wear their former uniform to mark the day.

As part of the variety of entertainment, there will also be songs performed by Expect Sefton Veterans Project and the Irish Guards will also sing as part of a choir.

It is being run by Bootle-based One Vision Housing (OVH) and the 160 people are tenants of the housing company.

More than 40 members of OVH staff will also be in attendance

A spokesperson for the firm, said: “OVH has been working closely with the local Sefton Veterans Project to organise this event, while also establishing better relationships with local veterans; helping them into housing after leaving the armed forces.”
