Fundraisers put their best foot forward for Jospice
by Tom Martin

FUNDRAISERS took part in a late night charity walk dressed up as rabbits, kangaroos and other animals as part of the annual Starlight Walk.

The annual event, organised by Thornton-based Jospice, saw residents walk 10 kilometres from Ince Blundell to Formby at 10pm on Friday, September 12.

Organisers had asked those taking part to wear fancy dress and also raise at least £40 each through sponsorship with the money set to support the Jospice.

Pat Murphy, the head of fundraising at the centre, said: “Pyjamas, fancy dress, specially printed t-shirts and even a few kangaroos were the order of the day!

”A lovely mild evening greeted the walkers at the Weld Blundell pub in Ince Blundell, when they checked in for the 10pm walk to Formby.

“Wearing glowing bunny ears and large glasses, drivers on the Formby bypass greeted the walkers to horns!”

The walkers were well looked after on the journey by a number of marshals on the route that included members of Crosby Lions and Formby Rotary Clubs who provided refreshments.

Pat added: “A very big thank you to everyone who took part in the walk to raise funds towards the work of Jospice.

”A special thank you to Dawn and staff of the Weld Blundell pub for making us so welcome, and to all our volunteers who helped on the evening.

“There was a great party atmosphere as everyone left and headed on the long route”.
