Take a magic carpet ride with society
by Henry James

ALL the fun of a traditional pantomime is to be had in Mawdesley in December as Mawdesley Amateur Dramatics Society presents their 40th anniversary pantomime.

This year MADS invites people to take a magic carpet ride to ancient Persia as it presents a brand new version of Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves which once again has been written and directed by Adrian Barradell

As usual MADS promises a fun and colourful show with plenty of gags (both old and new), lots of local references, music, a talking camel called Humphrey, and a cast who obviously know how to have fun on stage themselves.

The pantomime also includes local children both as members of the cast as well as the Rufford School of Dance who once again provide the choreography.

So come and watch as Ali Baba (played by Jenny Ashby) attempts to defeat the evil leader of the gang of thieves Al Raschid (Chris Hill) with the help of the slave girl Morgiana (Emma Meen) as well as the Widow Baba (Mark Wolstenholme) and a pair of dim-witted thieves (Debbie Wells and Bridgett Welch).

The panto also features Sultan Alimony (Irvin Wright) whose terrible secret is revealed at the end as well as his harem of wives including his favourite wives (Chris Willis, Nicky Wolstenholme, Lorraine Ryan and Pauline Strachan).

The pantomime runs from Thursday, December 4 to Saturday, December 6 at 7.30pm in Mawdesley Village Hall (with a Sat matinee show at 2pm).

Tickets are £8 adults and £4 children and can be obtained from the Post Office in Mawdesley or by emailing: mawdesleydrama@yahoo.co.uk.
