Pupils help break down 'age barrier'
by Tom Martin

BOOTLE pupils visited a sheltered accommodation last week to entertain elderly residents as part of an event to help “break down the barriers” of age division.

Youngsters from Bedford Primary School went to Mill Spring Court, also in Bootle, to put on a special performance during the pensioner's popular tea dance.

One Vision Housing (OVH) has organised tea dances at each of its retirement accommodations in the run-up to Christmas and they invite children from nearby schools as part of an intergenerational project.

The idea is to allow young and old to enjoy dance, with the latest event on Friday, December 12 proving to be a huge success.

During the afternoon, tenants and pupils enjoyed a variety of food, music and dancing performances themed around World War II

Nikki Bonner, Community Development Officer at OVH, said: “This is a wonderful opportunity for pupils and residents to reminisce, learn and enjoy the sights and sounds from World War II and get to know each other in an informal setting.”

A spokesperson from Bedford Primary School, said: “This has tied in perfectly with the children’s history curriculum, as they’ve been learning about the impact of the two World Wars on the local community.

”It’s also a great opportunity for them to learn more about the generations in their local community and the importance of remembrance.“
