Candlelit poetry recital
by Tom Martin

A LOCAL poet paid a special visit to a Bootle school to take part in a candle light recital.

Pupils from Hillside High School were able to invite family and friends to the event which featured writer Brian Wake.

The Christmas themed poetry proved to be a big hit with the audience as organisers at the school decorated the library for the recital.

Pupils wrote their own piece and the best poem was then chosen on the night.

A spokesperson for Hillside High said: “Everyone who took part represented themselves and the school beautifully and the winning poem, a poignant portrayal of Christmas, impressed listeners who sat in stunned silence.”
