Nursery school set to expand to enrol more two year olds
by Tom Martin

A CHILDREN'S nursery in Seaforth is set to expand with new classrooms and facilities built to cope with an expected increase in youngsters.

The £200,000 project at Sand Dunes Nursery School, on Caradoc Road, will include a single storey extension to house two classrooms, toilets, and a sleeping area.

There will also be an outdoor play area for youngsters.

It follows the announcement of plans by the government to allow children as young as two to enroll in nurseries.

Many such facilities across Sefton have decided to take up this option.

The nursery school already welcomes babies and tots up to the age of four, and the project follows a government announcement that it would provide funds to expand on the number of places nurseries offer to two year olds.

Of the £203,708 cost of the project, a total of £83,708 is from a Sefton Council fund earmarked to help schools and nurseries wishing to open their doors and enroll more two-year-olds.

A total of £50,000 was provided by Sand Dunes Nursery along with £70,000 from the council's ‘Devolved Formula Capital' fund.

A decision to give the project a go-ahead was granted last month by Sefton Council.

A report published by the local authority states: “This project will increase the primary school, nursery care and two year old provision in the area.”
