School plays host to physics day
by Tom Martin

A BOOTLE school played host to a special event designed to boost pupils' knowledge of physics.

Hillside High School held the annual day which involves six form students from across Sefton visiting and passing on wisdom to Year 11 pupils.

This year there were 80 youngsters taking part from Archbishop Beck High School, Deyes High School, Merchant Taylors’ Boys School and South Sefton Sixth Form College.

Hillside High School is a member of the Liverpool Ogden Trust School Partnership, which promotes physics and the benefit of taking up the subject.

During the event, there was also an appearance from the physics department from the University of Liverpool who put on a show involving liquid nitrogen.

The university members gave pupils career advice about the range of jobs and career opportunities for someone with a physics degree as well as setting them practical challenges, including building a model bridge.

Amanda Ryan, principal at Hillside said: “We were honoured to host this prestigious event. Undoubtedly, our students and those from the other schools that attended gained greatly from working with the experts. I’m sure this will help them to achieve top grades in physics this year.

”The feedback from staff and students was that the event was that it was a great success and should definitely continue next year. It is a great way of bringing the physicists of the future together and hopefully will help them achieve those elusive top grades.“
