Link road is open - so now clear up the mess!
by Tom Martin

WHILE the new link road may have opened for motorists last month, residents in Thornton claim the area nearby has been left like a bomb site' and have called for it to be cleaned up.

Peter McGrath, 67, lives close-by to the multi-million pound Brooms Cross Road which was built to reduce congestion between Switch Island and Thornton.

The construction was carried out by Balfour Beatty, with the help of local contractors, and took more than a year to create the road before it was opened up to traffic.

But parts of the construction site remain unfinished with Sefton Council confirming that it is hoped that final stages of the work will be completed by the end of September.

Mr said: “On the junction of Ince Road leading towards the new road it looks like a scene from a war zone. It looks like a bomb site.

”Everything should have been finished before the road was open. It's all well and good for the motorists to be using it and travelling to work or home but it's us residents who have to put up with the after effects“.

A spokesperson for Sefton Council said: ”It's fairly common for a few bits of tidying up to be done after major works. Hopefully it can get finished at the end of the month.“
