Picture House release listings for autumn and winter

VOLUNTEERS at Parbold Picture House have released their listings for the autumn and winter.

This Sunday (October 18) at 7pm there is to be a screening of the restored 1967 version of Far from the Madding Crowd. It is directed by John Schlesinger and stars Julie Christie, Terence Stamp, Peter Finch, and Alan Bates. It is based on the Thomas Hardy novel about a young woman who inherits a farm and the three men in her life.

Blade Runner (Final Cut) is to be shown on Sunday, November 1 at 7pm. It is directed by Ridley Scott and stars Harrison Ford, Rutger Hauer, Sean Young. The screening will be of Ridley’s Scott’s restored and remastered flagship, science-fiction film. It is a detective thriller, meditation on humanity, and is a film-noir.

On Sunday, November 15 at 7pm Mr Holmes can be seen. It is directed by Bill Condon and stars Ian McKellen, and Laura Linney. The film explores the man behind the myth of Sherlock Holmes. The elderly detective legend recalls fragments of an old case, while struggling with his deteriorating mind.

A Broadway theatre production Of Mice and Men is being shown on Thursday, November 19 at 7pm. This presentation of Steinbeck’s classic tale stars James Franco and Chris O’Dowd.

A Winter’s Tale starring Kenneth Branagh and Judi Dench is being shown on Thursday, November 26 at 7.15pm.

Child 44 is being shown on Sunday, November 29 at 7pm. It is directed by Daniel Espinosa and stars: Tom Hardy, Gary Oldman, Vincent Cassel, Noomi Rapace, and Paddy Considine. It is set in  Stalin’s Russia where a former agent investigates a spate of child murders.

On Tuesday, December 8 there is the chance to see Jane Eyre at 7pm. This is the NT-Bristol Old Vic co-production of Charlotte Bronte’s classic.

There is a chance to see Les Combattants on Sunday, December 13 at 7pm. This is a love story with a difference, told with wit and humour. A small-town man falls in love with an apocalyptic-minded woman and joins her at boot camp to learn survivalist skills….

Falstaff-Chimes at Midnight is to be shown at 7pm on Sunday, December 20. The film is directed by Orson Welles and the cast includes: John Gielgud, Jeanne Moreau, and Margaret Rutherford.

On Sunday, January 10 2016 people can see Amy, which is directed by Asif Kapadia. The film is from the director of Senna and it looks at the music of Amy Winehouse.

People can see the Clouds of Sils Maria on Sunday, January 24 at 7pm. It is directed by Oliver Assayas and stars Juliette Binoche, Kirsten Stewart, and Chloë Grace Moretz.

Les Liaisons Dangereuse can be seen on Thursday, January 28. 2016 at 7pm. In 1782, Choderlos de Laclos’ novel of sex, intrigue and betrayal in pre-revolutionary France scandalised the world. Two hundred years later, Christopher Hampton's adaptation swept the board, winning the Olivier and Evening Standard Awards for Best Play. Josie Rourke’s revival now marks the play’s 30 year anniversary.
