Homeless charity appoints two new trustees at its helm
by Tom Martin

A SEAFORTH charity which has recently built a £2.4million accommodation for homeless people has appointed two new trustees.

Emmaus Merseyside has sought advice from Phil Adams and Neina Cave, who have both joined a voluntary group made up of nine people who will oversee the running of the charity.

The pair can now look forward to getting inside their multi-million pound new apartment block, which was completed recently and will house 28 formerly homeless people when it is eventually unveiled next month.

The facility, on School Lane, is designed to put a roof over the head of Sefton's most vulnerable people on a permanent basis.

The appointments of Phil and Neina have been made during Trustees’ Week 2015, an annual celebration of charity trustees up and down the country.

32 year-old Phil, who is a Corporate Tax Manager, said: “I had been considering becoming a Trustee for some time but was looking for a local charity in which I could use my financial expertise. Having spent a year in France as part of my degree and heard about Emmaus over there, when I came across Emmaus Merseyside I was immediately interested.

”I think the concept of the social enterprise in conjunction with the provision of accommodation is brilliant, helping build companions’ self-esteem and skill-set. Whilst it will require hard work to make the superstore successful, it is a challenge which I relish and one which, with the assistance of the others, is very achievable.“

Fellow trustee, Neina, who is a Business Development Manager, added: ”I am delighted to be joining Emmaus Merseyside as a trustee at such an exciting time for the charity. It’s great to part of an organisation that offers a supportive alternative to people who find themselves homeless.“
