THE UK's first and only ‘mass-participation disability sports series' will come to Crosby Lakeside Adventure Centre next year.

Para Tri North, organised by Tribal Series, will offer similar challenges to when the inaugural event was held in Windsor last year, when it comes to the town in July 2016.

The event will focus on making sport accessible to those with disabilities and there are no cut-off times and no equipment restrictions, meaning participants can use adapted bikes, wheelchairs and other aids where needed.

Those taking part can also choose between solo paratriathlons or enter relays with disabled and non-disabled friends and family, plus bring along a ‘buddy’ to push or accompany them around the course if they wish.

Cllr Ian Moncur, Cabinet Member for Health and Wellbeing said: “We are delighted that Tribal Series has chosen Crosby Lakeside as the venue for the first ever northern Para Tri.

”As a council we are committed to making sure sport and physical activity is inclusive and we have many fantastic programmes taking place at our venues across the borough that meet the needs of all of our residents.

“I look forward to the event next year and to meeting all of the participants.”

Sophia Warner, Tribal Series founder and Paralympian, said: “Para Tri South was a realisation of a 20-year dream and it was amazing to watch participants, most of whom had never contemplated entering an event like this before, come together to achieve something extraordinary.

”We want to build on this by giving the UK’s 12million disabled many more inspiring sporting goals for 2016 and beyond. We are thrilled to be holding an event at Crosby Lakeside and hope it will be the first of many.“
