Linnets extend run to beat promotion rivals
by Tom Martin

BURSCOUGH extended their incredible unbeaten run in the league to 12 games with a 1-0 win against play-off rivals Glossop.

The Linnets travelled to the side positioned one place above them in the table but managed to come away with all three points thanks to a Will Jones strike in the 75th minute.

Burscough made one change to the team for this game, Jon Conway starting for the suspended Michael Monaghan.

Glossop came out the block firing at the start of the game and looked to try and take control of the game early.

Burscough dealt with the early pressure and soon created chances of their own as it looked like it would be a battle of the defences all game.

Billy Smart, Will Jones and Jon Conway all had chances for Burscough in the first half to open the scoring in the game, but did not convert any of the chances with Glossop keeper Lewis King making a few saves.

The second half Burscough came out brighter and Glossop were still threatening the Burscough goal but neither team could break the deadlock.

With 15 minutes from time, Burscough took the lead when great build up play resulted in a cross into the box and Will Jones tapped the ball home to give Burscough a slight advantage in the game.

Glossop poured forward in the final exchanges in the hope of finding an equiliser but the Linnets managed to hold on to the delight of travelling fans.

Burscough play at home against Prescott Cables on Boxing Day then away at Bamber Bridge on Monday, December 28. Both games kick off at 3pm.
