Pupils say hola to exchange!
by Tom Martin

A BOOTLE school opened its classroom doors to a group of Spanish pupils recently as part of an exchange scheme.

Back in June, the Champion reported how youngsters from Hillside High School had traveled to Malaga and enjoyed a week-long visit.

This time, it was the turn of the Spanish children to visit Bootle and they were able to take part in a whole host of activities, including science lessons, problem solving games and other classes.

It tested the language skills of both the Hillside and Spanish pupils who were tasked with trying to communicate with each other on a regular basis.

The visit was not just restricted to the classroom, as over the weekend they visited different sites of Liverpool city centre, Manchester and Chester.

Then on the final day, the pupils joined together again to celebrate cultural differences and the foreign youngsters were able to try some Stilton cheese, pork pies and bakewell tarts.

Following this everyone got involved in a Samba inspired group drumming session to bid a lively and raucous farewell to the Spaniards.

The exchange scheme is part of the Colegio La Reina partnership between Hillside and the Malaga-based school.

Amanda Ryan, principal at Hillside said: “We are delighted to have such strong links with Colegio La Reina and the opportunity for our students to make friends with Spanish students is fantastic and undoubtedly helps to develop their Spanish further.”
