Linnets lose out to Witton in thriller
by Tom Martin

BURSCOUGH lost their second league game in a row after losing out in a thrilling encounter against Witton Albion.

Despite playing at home, the Linnets failed to make the home advantage count and narrowly lost out 3-2.

The scoring was opened by striker Will Jones, who struck in the 28th minute. However, Burscough failed to keep out their opposition for long and Witton equalised only three minutes later through Callum Hassan.

After the half time break, Jay Matthews gave the visitors the lead in the 62 minute. Witton then looked to have wrapped up all three points when Rob Hopley scored in the 86th minute.

Burscough were not ready to give up just yet and pulled a goal back a minute later to make it 3-2.

Despite throwing men forward in the closing stages, Witton held on for the win.

Burscough's next game is away at New Mills on Saturday, January 16 at 3pm.
