Armed thieves rob convenience store
by Henry James

POLICE have launched an investigation after robbers armed with a hammer and a handgun targeted a convenience store in Skelmersdale.

The robbery took place at M Singhs convenience store in Elswick, Tanhouse shortly before 6.30pm on Thursday, January 28.

Two of the men entered the store while the third remained outside.

The two men who went inside demanded money from the shopkeeper, pushing him over before removing a small amount of cash from the till and some spirits from behind the counter.

They then fled the scene in an unknown direction.

The first man who went inside the shop was described as white, aged around 18 to 19 years old, medium build, approximately 5ft 6in tall and was wearing a grey scarf and blue waterproof jacket and black gloves. The second man was described as white, aged around 18 to 19-years-old, approximately 6ft tall, of a skinny build and was wearing all black clothing with a scarf covering his head.

DI Joanne Keay of South CID said: “This must have been extremely frightening for the shop keeper who has understandably been left shocked by what happened. The shop is regularly used by children and thankfully no one was harmed during the incident.

”It appears to have been a targeted attack and we would like to reassure the community that incidents involving firearms such as this one are rare. An investigation is already underway and we are determined to find those responsible.

“If anyone has any information about what happened or who was in the vicinity at the time and witnessed any suspicious activity, I would urge them to get in touch with us as soon as possible.”

Anyone with information can contact police on 101 quoting log 1121 of January 28.

Alternatively Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at Crimestoppers-uk.org.
