by Henry James

MEMBERS of an amateur boxing club seeking to raise £10,000 for vital repairs have been given a boost by another team of ‘fighters'!

The boxing squad of the Second Battalion of the Duke of Lancaster's Regiment visited Birch Green Amateur Boxing Club to help raise awareness of their fundraising efforts to improve their Heversham clubhouse.

Sergent Major Joseph Flemming, head coach of the 2Lancs Boxing Team, said: “We heard that the Birch Green Boxing club was

in need of funds and we wanted to help raise awareness to the club by bringing our team down to do a one-off training session with the club's boxers.

”We think helping our young kids and adults from all walks of life and all backgrounds is massively important.

“So helping the young boys and girls of Skelmersdale in all sports - not just boxing - is a must. We need to keep our kids fit and

healthy as well as being in a safe and friendly environment.

”Birch Green ABC do a fantastic job in the Skelmersdale community teaching the young boxers teamwork dedication, motivation,

respect, friendship and loyalty which gives them confidence and self-belief.

“We at 2Lancs would like to thank everyone at Birch Green ABC for the great job they do at the club and the dedication they have to this town. Keep it up, boys.”

Colin Day, head coach at Birch Green ABC, added: “We were honoured and delighted to have Sgt. Major Flemming, head coach of the Second Battalion the Duke of Lancaster's, visit for a one-off session to help promote our gym and give us a hand showing the young boxers a thing or two.

”The boxers from 2Lancs are an incredible bunch of people, giving their time out from a very busy schedule to come down to the

“They are in training themselves for upcoming bouts and we wish them all the luck in the future.”
