Fleetwood takes joint third place at Arnold Palmer Invitational event
SOUTHPORT golfer Tommy Fleetwood finished in joint third position at last weekend's Arnold Palmer Invitational tournament in Florida, which was won by his Ryder Cup team-mate Francesco Molinari.
Fleetwood had been leading the event at the halfway stage along with the American Keegan Bradley.
In his second round, Fleetwood had recorded two eagles to score a 66, which had moved him to nine under for the tournament and four shots clear with Bradley.
He dropped back in the third round after shooting a 76, which was four over for the round.
However Fleetwood had a good final round where he hit 12 of the 18 greens in regulation. Highlights of his round included a 17-foot putt to make birdie at the par-4 10th hole.
During the week the 28-year-old was asked why he has not signed to use one club manufacturer exclusively.
He currently has a golf bag with clubs from different companies.
He responded: “I think the luxury of being able to try everything that’s out there really suits me.
“There's a lot to be said for freedom of choice. Signing with someone is not something for me to worry about at the moment.”
Fleetwood is aiming to win a first PGA Tour event and added: “I've started the season slowly but if I keep focusing and improving, hopefully that will be the end result.”
