Artz Centre hosts a special event with a difference
THE Artz Centre in Skelmersdale is usually known for its vibrant, community-led performing arts programme but it celebrated a special event of a different kind when it played host to the very first ‘Artz Wedding.’
The centre in Birch Green Road was the chosen venue for the marriage of two former Artz students, Liam Hogarth and Megan Sumner.
The young couple met at the Artz Centre during spring 2016, while rehearsing for an Artz Academy production of West Side Story and their own romance blossomed as they performed in a total of more than 50 productions between them.
During their time as students both Liam and Megan were awarded the much sought-after accolade of ‘Artz Student of the Year’ and throughout their time in the academy as well as becoming brilliant performers they also grew to be respected role models among younger students.
Following their engagement in September 2017 their thoughts turned to wedding plans and Artz Centre director, Mark Ashton was thrilled when the couple announced their wish to tie the knot at the centre.
And on the joyous ‘big day’ itself, enjoyed by close family and friends, Mark made a moving speech in which he told of how the Artz Centre had witnessed the beginning of Megan and Liam’s journey together and therefore it was particularly fitting that what had become virtually a “second home” to the couple should host their special day.
The Artz Team said: “We would like to once again, extend every happiness to Liam and Megan as they begin their next chapter as Mr and Mrs Hogarth.”
