Move over Embrace, comic Stan
19 May 2006
Move over Embrace, comic Stan Boardman has released his own World Cup song and it has been produced by local singer, Paul McCoy. The official World Cup anthem has been recorded by Embrace, but Stan Boardman’s unofficial version called Stan’s Song is already growing in popularity and will be released on Monday, May 29. In the Scouse funnyman’s song he takes a swipe at the Germans “for bombing our chippies” in the Second World War. Paul, 41, from Old Skelmersdale, hit our TV screens in 1996 when he appeared on ITV’s Stars In Your Eyes’ final as Irish singer Gilbert O’Sullivan, singing Matrimony. He said: “I have known Stan for about seven or eight years. He asked me to arrange all the music and he said he wanted the song to go to the tune of She'll Be Coming Round the Mountain and the theme of The Dam Busters. I produced it and he wrote all the lyrics. “The response has already been fantastic. Stan has been up and down the country promoting the single on TV and radio. “We are very confident that it will reach the charts and it has already had good reviews.”
