  • Ace archer Jack strikes gold again

    Henry James

SKELMERSDALE’S Jack Grogan overcame a slow start to strike gold again in the annual Wirral Archers tournament at New Brighton Rugby club on Sunday (July 8).

Grogan had been expected to miss the competition due to work commitments but a last-minute change of plans saw him able to take part after all.

Unfortunately the short notice meant that he was unable to practice and set his up his bow in readiness and he had to guess his sight marks.

The round was a ‘Windsor’ which is relatively short distances (60, 50 and 40 yards) compared to his recent competitions and the local ace lost several points early on due to adjusting his bow to the correct sight marks. As a result he was back in joint third place after two dozen arrows.

With the sight marks corrected, however, he had taken a two-point lead by the end of the third dozen arrows and at the 50 and 40-yard distances, despite having to readjust his sight marks again, he remained in the lead, distancing himself further from his nearest rival at every dozen arrows shot to pick up the gold medal again.
