Daredevil blind vicar cycles to Liverpool and back.. on tandem!
A DAREDEVIL blind vicar and minister have completed an unusual fund-raiser – cycling to and from Liverpool on a tandem!
The Rev Alex Galbraith, who is blind, and Rev Marie-Anne Kent, Anglican Vicar and Methodist Minister at the Church of St Francis of Assisi in Kew, took on the cycle from the church to Liverpool Cathedral and back earlier this month. Marie-Anne rode at the front of the tandem with Alex behind her. Alex is no stranger to stunts to raise money for the church - he’s abseiled down Liverpool Cathedral, done aerobatics in a light plane, gone whitewater rafting, descended into Gaping Gill and travelled on the fastest zip wire in the world.
Alex said: “We were so grateful that it didn’t rain and that it wasn’t too hot! I now feel very stiff and sore but am glad that we achieved it. I think this was the hardest fund-raiser yet!”
Marie-Anne, who bought the tandem for the ride, added: “It was very tough to steer, and that other traffic didn’t give a lot of space. I don't intend to take up tandem riding in the future!”
